Wednesday, 16. Sep 2020.

Huawei has opened an Innovations and Development Centre in its headquarters in Belgrade on Monday, September 14 in the presence of the Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and the Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Chen Bo.

On the occasion, Brnabic praised Chinese partners for opening the new centre that would significantly help further digitization in Serbia .

The Prime Minister pointed out that the Information and communication technology (ICT) value in the domestic GDP was 6% for the first six month of 2020 while the percentage for 2012 was 2.4%. She added that the percentage of ICT value in GDP exceded the share of construction and tourism and if the trend continued it could exceed the share of agriculture in GDP.

She reminded that one of her governments priorities was launching digital transformation of the country so the Serbian economy could be based in innovations and creativity.

Answering to press questions about how certain points of the Washington agreement could contravene cooperation with Huawei, Brnabic said that Serbia was not interested in unreliable technologies either and that on the contrary, it was in the interest of the tender for the introduction of the 5G network to be open and transparent, while respecting international standards.

Brnabic added that she discusses this with Huawei representatives and that they were on the same page about having open and transparent tendering procedure when the time comes for the introduction of the 5G network.

Chen Bo said that the overall strategic partnership between Serbia and China is in constant development and that the cooperation in these sector led to great and fruitful outcomes contributing to economic development of both countries and bringing actual benefits to its citizens.

– Im pleased Huawei has found an open and honest business environment and is widening the cooperation with Serbian partners.

She added that the digital industry in China plays a vital role in the countrys economic development and that China was ready to share its technologies with Serbia.
